Easter 2024

31 Mar

Friday was a break from school, so Ben and I drove to Page, Arizona. I forgot that Page is on standard time, instead of daylight time, so we got there an hour early for our grocery pick-up.

Since we had bonus time, we got tacos at a taco truck and drove over to see the Glenn Canyon dam.

After that, I managed to get a last minute appointment for a hair cut, and Ben picked up the groceries at Walmart. (Page is our closest Walmart- only 2 hour drive from Monument Valley!)

I miss the spring flowers in Missouri, but the school does have this flowering tree.
Saturday, the kids and I colored eggs

We also made resurrection rolls and put them in the fridge for Sunday.

I made these drop-crotch pants for Banana Cream Pie, who prizes comfort over style.

I really missed getting together with family for Easter. But we had a nice ham dinner, and an indoor egg-hunt, because there was a sandstorm blowing outside. I made the kids wait outside in the wind while we hid the eggs. 😂

Sunday evening, we had a glow stick dance party with all the glow sticks from the egg hunt.

Palm Sunday 2022

10 Apr

Because of Him, we can feel joy.

We don’t have palm leaves in Missouri, but we do have Osage orange branches.

We shouted “Hosanna!” to God, like the people of Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.

Zeke asked, “How does shouting Hosanna give me faith in Christ?”

I told him “Hosanna” means “save us now.” When we shout Hosanna to God, we are recognizing our need for a Savior and rejoicing that God sent His Son that we might be saved.

Easter 2020

Church at home means our primary lesson can be hands-on Resurrection Rolls😊🥰🌈🦋He is not here, for he is risen

The truth is, I thought this was kind of a dumb, gimicky idea. But my children loved it, and found lots of meaning in it.

We will definitely repeat this activity in the future.

You can find the recipe for Resurrection rolls here:

Favorite scriptures about Jesus Christ

Mosiah 16:9

He is the light and life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death.

Also I love this one, which Hugh Nibley called, “the most beautiful passage in the Book of Mormon”

2 Nephi 9:41
Oh then, my beloved brethren, come into the Lord, the Holy One. Remember that his paths are righteous. Behold, the way for man is narrow, but it lieth in a straight course before him, and the Keeper of the gate is the Holy One of Israel; and he employeth no servant there.

My Mom’s favorite

John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

My sister-in-law Cegan

One of mine is Moroni 10:32-33

“Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot.”

My brother John D

13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
John 15:13-14

My sister Mary

D&C 19:16-19

16 For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent;

17 But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I;

18 Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink—

19 Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men.

Easter Week 2020

9 Apr

Tonight our “palm” branches became an Easter Tree.

We each wrote down what Jesus’ sacrifice meant to us and what we could give during our fast as a sacrifice for Him.

We folded up our notes and put them inside eggs and tied them to our Easter Branches.

I didn’t read the notes, but I saw Apple Pie’s. She wrote “I ❤️Gesus”

Corrie ten Boom wrote:

Father sat down on the edge of the narrow bed. “Corrie,” he began gently, “when you and I go to Amsterdam-when do I give you your ticket?”

I sniffed a few times, considering this.”Why, just before we get on the train.”

“Exactly. And our wise Father in heaven knows when we’re going to need things, too. Don’t run out ahead of Him, Corrie. When the time comes that some of us will have to die, you will look into your heart and find the strength you need-just in time.”

We drove to Ozark and did an egg hunt with Aunt Cegan and her kids. It was a fun day, and no one was scared of the Easter Bunny!

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Laurel: You made me cry… You have no idea how badly I needed to be reminded. Some times you get caught up in just knowing scripture. Instead of letting it speak to you. Thanks Becs
