Blueberry Pie

9 May

This boy. He is good and kind and smart and dedicated. Life can get kind of crazy when you have 11 sinners living under one roof.

Blueberry helps our family be better. I’m super proud of him and feel grateful that I got to be his mom. Also, I’m really excited to see what he does next.

What I mean by saying 11 sinners is that none of us are perfect, and our imperfect parts collide. It’s good for me to remember this- otherwise I develop unrealistic expectations for how things should be.

Mom having unrealistic expectations is a major cause of lack of peace in our home.

Blueberry Pie’s Last Band Concert

24 Apr

Allowing a child to be in Marching and Jazz Band is a huge time commitment, for them and you. It is expensive, too. There were many many days when I was frustrated at the demands that band placed on my child and our family.

But band is good, too. Band is a place that creates belonging for kids. The kids in band are generally good kids. And these band teachers loved my kid and helped him through some tough times.

😭😭😭

Pioneer Trek Time

8 Jun

Every four years the we reenact the Pioneer trek to Utah. It’s meant for the youth (ages 14-18) to gain an appreciation for their Pioneer heritage as well as strengthen their testimonies of Jesus Christ.

I stayed home with the babies this time, but the Man of the House went as a company captain.

Blueberry Pie wore a sombrero the whole time and made lots of Mexican jokes. He and Cherry Pie pushed and pulled their hand carts about 13 miles over three days, camped each night, and cooked with Dutch ovens.

Father sat down on the edge of the narrow bed. “Corrie,” he began gently, “when you and I go to Amsterdam-when do I give you your ticket?”

I sniffed a few times, considering this.”Why, just before we get on the train.”

“Exactly. And our wise Father in heaven knows when we’re going to need things, too. Don’t run out ahead of Him, Corrie. When the time comes that some of us will have to die, you will look into your heart and find the strength you need-just in time.”

A vest

Blueberry Pie

I made this vest for Blueberry Pie to go to a dance.

The button holes were kind of wonky, but I’m telling myself that they are hidden behind the buttons so it’s not a big deal.

Blueberry is such a handsome guy.

This is Good Time Management

16 Feb

Blueberry Pie got his driver’s license!

My daily life has changed so much.  No longer do I have to pick him up from seminary and drive him to school.  No longer do I have to pick him up from school and drive him to swim practice or life guard duty at the YMCA.  No longer do I have to drive him to Academic Bowl or basketball games or football games or Wednesday night activities.

I literally have 2 hours a day (or more) to get things done at home that I used to spend in the car.  I suspect I will listen to less audio books and home school & mothering podcasts.  But I am spending more time on my scripture study, my home school preparation, actual home school lessons, my laundry, and my blogging.

Its a sweet deal to suddenly be handed 2 new hours a day.

Cub Run

7 May

Monett Cub Run results: Blueberry Pie placed 3rd in his age division with a time of 25:06

The Man of the House won his age group with a time of 25:25!

(Blueberry Pie called his age group the “Neanderthal” age.)

In other news, Judging by the pile of butter knives on the counter this morning, my kids must have used a new knife for each peanut butter sandwich they made while I was gone.

At least they fed themselves. That’s a win for me.
