She had a great summer in swim team, and only missed swimming in the finals at A Champs by a tiny bit. She is the best at taking care of Baby Dumpling. She practices the piano even if I haven’t given her a lesson in weeks. She likes helping me cook. She is her teacher’s best helper in school and at church.
Love her tons!
For her birthday, she wanted trifle. It was delicious! Trifle is a great dessert for around the beginning of July when you can still get fresh blueberries and strawberries. Such a patriotic dessert!
Trifle or “Red, White, and Blue Dessert”
1 plain yellow cake–from a mix or your favorite recipe. Remind me to share mine sometime.
16 oz strawberries, washed & sliced
3 cups blueberries, washed
3 bananas, sliced
2 cups heavy cream, whipped (or non-dairy whipped topping)
4 boxes of cherry or strawberry jello, prepared
2 large boxes of vanilla pudding, prepared, or this homemade quick pudding
Cut the cake and the jello into cubes.
In a large bowl (4 quart or bigger capacity) layer the ingredients:
1. Cake
2. Jello
3. Pudding
4. Berries–save a few to sprinkle on top for pretties
5. Whipped Cream
6. Sprinkling of berries
Devour the creamy deliciousness and rejoice in how patriotic you have been for the day.

We joined the Monett Water Thrashers this summer.
They practice every morning at the Monett Pool.
I was doubtful about signing up Pumpkin Pie (was she too young?) but she really wanted to try it.
Last week she said, “Mom, I’m going to win my heat next time.” and she did!
Winning her heat put her in 9th place of about 30 swimmers for the race.
Happy birthday to my girl with quiet determination.
“Though she be but little, she is fierce!” ~Midsummer Night’s Dream
Pumpkin Pie is my second daughter. She is sweet and wholesome and good. She is my little nurturer, loves to play with baby dolls and loves to help with real babies. She sometimes changes her little sister’s diaper without me asking her to.
She was not friendly to strangers as a little child and glared at anyone who dared to look at her.
Her emotions are pretty polar. Either she is happy, or she is NOT. NOT happy = howling her unhappiness to the sky in complete and utter meltdown.
She loves to play the piano and hounds me until I give her a lesson. She practices that lesson without my ever asking her to. Often she will sit down and just try to figure out the next song in the book on her own.
She likes macaroni and cheese, nutella on graham crackers, and hot cocoa. Actually, she loves junk food so much that I have to just not have it in the house because she will refuse all real food if she thinks there are other options.
Actual pumpkin pie is my favorite dessert, possibly because my birthday often falls on Thanksgiving day. Also possibly because I can eat so much of it without feeling sick. I can even eat it for breakfast and suffer no ill consequences. The fact that pumpkin pie is my favorite does not mean that Pumpkin Pie is my favorite. I don’t have favorites. But it certainly is easy to love someone who is so often a willing, cheerful helper.

We had a fun party with friends and cousins.

1 cherry bit cake mix plus 1 pound butter plus 3 girls plus 1 boy equals fun with a cookie press.

It also equals early bedtime for 3 girls because Mom is tired.
